Burgum and Miller Spearhead Beam Signing Ceremony Celebrating Milestone for North Dakota State Laboratory

BISMARCK, N.D. – Governor Doug Burgum and Lieutenant Governor Tammy Miller recently led a beam signing ceremony to mark the placement of the final structural beam for the new North Dakota State Laboratory. The $70 million state-of-the-art facility, funded through federal sources, is set to house around 50 staff members from the Department of Health and Human Services (DDHS) and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) with an anticipated completion date of June 2026.

During the ceremony, Governor Burgum emphasized the significance of the new laboratory in enhancing public health and environmental monitoring in North Dakota. He praised the legislature for approving funding for the project, as well as the architects, contractors, and agency teams for their efforts in keeping North Dakotans safe and healthy.

Lieutenant Governor Miller, who chairs the North Dakota State Laboratory Steering Committee and the Capitol Grounds Planning Commission, also highlighted the collaboration opportunities and improved response capabilities that the new facility will bring to address public health challenges and environmental issues.

The ceremony was attended by statewide officials, legislators, cabinet leaders, and DHHS and DEQ team members who signed the beam before it was lifted into place by a crane. The event was livestreamed on the governor’s Facebook page to allow citizens to participate in the milestone moment as the state continues its investment in critical infrastructure.
