A toxicology report revealed that former One Direction singer Liam Payne had multiple drugs in his system, including “pink cocaine,” when he fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Pink cocaine is a powdery mix of ketamine and various illegal substances, often including methamphetamine, MDMA, opioids, and other synthetic drugs. Despite its name, pink cocaine may not actually contain cocaine and gets its color from food coloring. The drug can have varying effects depending on the individual’s reaction, the types and amounts of drugs involved, and whether alcohol is also consumed. Side effects can include confusion, hallucinations, agitation, and sickness, and have led to physical and sexual assaults in some cases.
Payne was found dead shortly after a hotel receptionist called 911 to report his erratic behavior while intoxicated with alcohol and drugs. He fell from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, sustaining 25 injuries consistent with a fall from height. The autopsy determined his cause of death to be polytraumatism and hemorrhage. Pink cocaine is considered dangerous due to its unpredictable composition, with concerns of potentially containing fentanyl, a potent opioid responsible for many overdose deaths. The drug market is considered highly dangerous, with warnings that dealers may not provide the intended product, highlighting the need for caution and awareness of the risks associated with street drugs like pink cocaine.
