Israel promises retaliation for missile attack by Iran, deploys additional troops to Lebanon.

An Israeli soldier was severely injured in a stabbing and shooting attack in Tel Aviv, which resulted in the death of seven people and has been labeled as terrorism by Israeli police. The soldier was one of 12 wounded, six of them seriously, and was evacuated to a hospital for treatment. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack, and both suspects were killed. Israeli strikes were reported in Beirut overnight, targeting weapons production sites embedded in residential areas by Hezbollah. More than 1,000 people have been killed and over 1 million displaced due to Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon. Palestinian men celebrated next to a missile shell in Ramallah believed to have been fired by Iran. The Israeli ambassador to the U.N. stated that Israel’s response to the Iranian missile attack will be noticeable and painful. The U.S. Embassy in Israel lifted its shelter-in-place order, citing diminished missile threats. Hezbollah claimed to have forced Israeli soldiers to retreat from a Lebanese town, the first known clashes on the ground. Israel sent more ground troops into Lebanon targeting Hezbollah, with Iran warning of a tougher response to any Israeli retaliation. Iran launched 180 ballistic missiles at Israel following Israeli attacks on Hezbollah targets. Israeli officials reported intercepting a large number of missiles without any casualties.
