Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson is currently being treated for burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. His communications director confirmed that Robinson is in good spirits despite being hospitalized. The event had to be canceled due to a lack of power caused by Hurricane Helene, which affected the western part of the state. This incident comes after a CNN report alleged that Robinson made antisemitic and racist comments on a porn website years ago. Following the report, four top staff members of Robinson’s campaign resigned, although the campaign did not directly attribute their departures to the allegations. Robinson has denied the claims and remains defiant in the face of criticism. The Harris campaign has sought to link Robinson to former President Donald Trump, who endorsed him before the CNN report was released. Democrats hope the controversy surrounding Robinson’s candidacy will help them flip the state blue in the upcoming election. Trump narrowly won North Carolina in 2020, and Republicans recognize the state’s importance in presidential elections.
