Meta revealed a slew of new hardware and software at its annual Connect conference, including the Orion glasses, described as the most advanced glasses ever made. These AR glasses can project digital images onto the real world, use generative AI capabilities, and have a wrist-based neural interface that allows users to send signals from their brain to the device.
These glasses also weigh less than 100 g and are wire-free, providing a glimpse into the future of wearable technology. While no release date has been set, technology analyst Paolo Pescatore praised the advancements in smart glasses and the blending of virtual and physical environments.
In addition to the Orion glasses, Meta announced updates to its Ray-Ban smart glasses, more AI features, and the launch of an open-source AI model called Llama 3.2. The company also introduced AI that allows users to interact with celebrities’ voices, as well as an AI feature for influencers to create virtual versions of themselves for fan interactions.
On the VR side, Meta will release the Quest 3S as a cheaper alternative to the Quest 3, discontinuing the Quest 2 and Quest Pro. With a focus on creating a more open, accessible, and human-centered future, Meta’s announcements at the event showcased its commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and user experience.
