China conducted a successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, raising international concerns as tensions between China and the United States continue to escalate. China’s nuclear arsenal is rapidly expanding, with the country’s military undergoing modernization efforts to become a “world class” military by 2049. The country has been increasing its nuclear warheads, with estimates suggesting it could quadruple its arsenal to 1,500 warheads by 2035. This growth in China’s nuclear capabilities has raised concerns internationally, especially given the country’s no first use policy on nuclear weapons.
