Former President Donald Trump was briefed by U.S. intelligence officials about specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in order to destabilize the United States. The threats have reportedly intensified in recent months, leading to increased security measures for Trump and efforts to protect the upcoming election from interference. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence confirmed the briefing but did not provide further details.
The Iranian mission to the United Nations did not respond to requests for comment, and the Harris campaign had no immediate response. This briefing follows previous reports of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Trump earlier this year, which led to heightened security measures around him. The Iranian mission denied these allegations as “unsubstantiated and malicious.”
Two apparent attempts on Trump’s life have been reported, one in Butler, Pennsylvania, and another in West Palm Beach, Florida. A suspect was arrested and charged in connection with the Florida incident. The Senate recently passed a bill to provide major presidential candidates like Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris with increased protection levels, similar to President Joe Biden. The bill now awaits Biden’s signature, who has stated that the Secret Service needs more assistance. It remains unclear if Trump has resumed regular intelligence briefings.
