After 50 years and 150 shows, Billy Joel performed his final concert at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, concluding his historic residency at the iconic New York City venue. Joel made history as the first music franchise at MSG in 2013, playing one show a month for over ten years. Throughout his tenure, he broke multiple records for most consecutive and lifetime performances, commemorated with banners in the venue. Joel was joined on stage by numerous surprise guests, including Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Miley Cyrus. The venue paid tribute to Joel with a special exhibit showcasing memorabilia from his residency, including harmonicas and set lists. Fans at the final concert enjoyed themed concessions and had the opportunity to write messages to Joel at a photo station. Over 1.9 million tickets were sold to fans from around the world during Joel’s residency, which also included participation in benefit concerts supporting victims of Hurricane Sandy and 9/11. Joel announced his final show at MSG in an Instagram post, bidding farewell to a legendary chapter in his career.
