Israeli military retrieves bodies of five captives from Gaza in Israel-Palestine conflict.

Israeli military operations in southern Gaza resulted in the recovery of five bodies of previously declared dead individuals. The recovered bodies included kindergarten teacher Maya Goren and soldiers Tomer Ahimas, Kiril Brodski, Ravid Aryeh Katz, and Oren Goldin. The bodies were returned to Israel following the operation in Khan Younis.

Goren, aged 56, was killed in the kibbutz of Nir Oz during an attack led by Hamas on October 7th. The army confirmed that the other soldiers died in combat on the same day, with Katz being a member of the Nir Oz kibbutz security team.

The recovery of the bodies was part of new raids launched by Israeli forces in Khan Younis, where tensions escalated resulting in the deaths of at least 129 Palestinians and injuries to hundreds. Approximately 150,000 residents were forced to evacuate the area.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed disappointment in ongoing efforts to release remaining captives in Gaza. Families of eight US captives in Gaza were disappointed with Netanyahu’s lack of commitment to a hostage deal that was on the table. Netanyahu was urged to finalize the deal before it was too late, as casualties continued to rise in Israel’s war on Gaza.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the death toll in Gaza reached 39,145 people, while the death toll in Israel from Hamas-led attacks was estimated at 1,139. Dozens of people remain held captive in Gaza, adding to the urgency of the situation.
