A 76-year-old woman in Connecticut, Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi, was found dead at her home just hours before she was to be sentenced for killing her husband, Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi, and hiding his body for months. She had been set to receive a 13-year prison sentence as part of a plea deal. The cause of her death is under investigation.
Kosuda-Bigazzi claimed that she and her husband got into a fight after she told him about needed repairs to their deck. She stated that he came at her with a hammer, and in the struggle that followed, she managed to gain control of the hammer and hit him, resulting in his death.
Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi’s body was found in the couple’s basement in an advanced state of decomposition in February 2018. It was determined that he died from blunt trauma to his head, likely occurring in July 2017. Despite his death, his paychecks continued to be deposited into their joint account until his body was discovered.
An investigation following the discovery of Dr. Bigazzi’s body revealed that a school medical official, who was supposed to monitor his work, had not been in contact with him for months leading up to his death. This led to disciplinary action being taken by UConn Health. Kosuda-Bigazzi’s lawyer expressed shock at her unexpected death and emphasized her independence and control over her own life.
