Russia has added former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to its wanted list, according to reports from Russian state media. Tymoshenko, along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, his predecessor Petro Poroshenko, and other officials and lawmakers from Ukraine and NATO countries, are all on this list for unspecified criminal charges.
Tymoshenko, a prominent figure in Ukrainian politics and leader of the Fatherland party, has not yet commented on her inclusion in the wanted list. The list also includes Kaja Kallas, the Prime Minister of Estonia, who has been targeted by Russian officials for advocating for increased military aid to Ukraine and stronger sanctions against Moscow.
The Russian government has also targeted cabinet ministers from Estonia and Lithuania, as well as the International Criminal Court prosecutor who prepared a warrant for President Vladimir Putin on war crimes charges. Additionally, Moscow has charged the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence with what it deems as “terrorist” activities, including Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian infrastructure.
Russia’s laws criminalize the “rehabilitation of Nazism” and deem the “desecration” of war memorials as punishable offenses. This recent move by Russia to add Tymoshenko and other officials to its wanted list reflects the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, as well as Russia’s efforts to assert its influence in the region.
