Blaze persists at North Dakota train accident site

BORDULAC, N.D. – A CPKC train derailment in Foster County, N.D. has led to a voluntary evacuation recommendation for residents within a 1-mile radius of the scene as derailed cars continue to burn. The incident, which occurred at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, involved railcars carrying hazardous materials including anhydrous ammonia, sulfur, and methanol. Emergency Management Director Andrew Kirking stated that crews are working to extinguish the fire within the next 12 to 18 hours, with efforts to move the cars hindered by a bog. Pumping trailers are being used to combat the flames as the National Transportation Safety Board launches an investigation into the derailment. Residents in the vicinity of the scene have been urged to evacuate voluntarily for their safety. The situation remains ongoing as officials coordinate their response to the incident.
