Italian fashion influencer Ferragni to donate $1.3 million as part of settlement to end antitrust investigation

Italian fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni has agreed to donate at least 1.2 million euros as part of a deal with Italian antitrust authorities. This comes after an investigation into misleading communications that led consumers to believe that the proceeds from the purchase of Easter eggs with her logo would go to a children’s charity. Three Ferragni companies will pay 5% of profits over three years, with a minimum of 1.2 million euros, to a charity for disabled children called Children of the Fairies. Additionally, the maker of the eggs, Cerealitalia Industrie Dolciare, will pay at least 100,000 euros to the charity.

The AGCM antitrust agency stated that the payment will compensate consumers who believed they were making an economic contribution to Children of the Fairies by purchasing the product. The companies involved have also agreed to separate their commercial activities, including advertising, from charitable contributions. Earlier in January, Ferragni was fined 1 million euros for a similar scheme involving charitable communications linked to sales of a traditional Christmas cake.

These deals have affected Ferragni’s image, as she has worked hard to establish herself in the fashion industry as a blogger, influencer, and businesswoman. She has her own clothing, accessory, and makeup brands and previously served on the board of the luxury group Tod’s. With her term expiring in March, this agreement marks a significant development in Ferragni’s career and charitable endeavors.
