A recent poll from the Pew Research Center has revealed that people in 34 countries around the world have more confidence in President Joe Biden than his challenger in the 2024 election, former President Donald Trump. The poll found that a median of 43% trust Biden to do the right thing in world affairs, compared to only 28% for Trump. This greater confidence in Biden comes at a time when faith in U.S. democracy as a global example is diminishing.
While a median of 54% of people in the surveyed countries still have positive views of the U.S., only 21% believe that U.S. democracy remains a good example for other nations to follow. This decline in belief in U.S. democracy as a model for other countries is particularly evident in Europe, where the share of those who believe in its efficacy has fallen.
Despite his ratings dropping since his first year in office, Biden still maintains higher levels of confidence than Trump among global citizens. Biden has received lower ratings for his handling of the Israel-Hamas war, but his ratings for his handling of the situation in Ukraine are relatively higher. French President Emmanuel Macron received the highest level of confidence in the survey, while Russian President Vladimir Putin received the lowest.
In conclusion, while confidence in U.S. democracy is on the decline globally, President Joe Biden is still viewed more favorably than his predecessor, Donald Trump, by people in various countries around the world.
