High school football standout Shawn Hammerbeck has officially committed to play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers under the coaching of Matt Rhule. The 3-star prospect from Winner High School in South Dakota made the announcement on Twitter. Standing at six-foot-six and 260 pounds, Hammerbeck is known for being physical at the point of attack, making him a valuable asset in both the run game and pass protection.
Hammerbeck chose Nebraska over several other schools including Texas Tech, Minnesota, Kansas, and Kansas State. His commitment is seen as a significant win for the Huskers, who have been making waves in recruiting and the transfer portal recently. The Winner Warriors, Hammerbeck’s high school team, had a successful season last year, reaching the State Semis. Their upcoming season will kick off on August 23rd with a home game against Hot Springs.
In addition to Hammerbeck’s commitment, South Dakota has also produced several NFL players over the years. While the state may not be considered a traditional football powerhouse, it has still sent players to the big league. These players have represented various teams in the NFL over the last few decades, showcasing the talent that comes from the state.
